You "Desurve" This...

Last night I heard my daughter upstairs in her room and went to check only to be told I couldn't come in. There was a grin on her face and happiness behind her eyes as she confessed to working on my birthday gift for today.

This morning I woke her up for school and went downstairs. Shortly after, she came down the stairs, smile on her face and said "Happy Birthday". Then she handed me a envelope she made.

Replacing Pieces....

While outside today my daughter grabbed my camera and snapped some pictures. One picture was suppose to be a panoramic picture of me sitting on a bench. For some reason, the camera did not capture all of me on the bench. It was strange... and interesting. It sparked my photo editing creativity. After a few edits, this is what I created.

I Want My Child Not To Avoid...

Life is full of many obstacles, obstacles and situations we, as parents, want to shield and protect our child from, however we can't, we can't shield from everything. Therefore, what do we want our children not to avoid in order to grow? I have been thinking this over for awhile and came up with three main situations I want her to embrace and not avoid.

One, love. I want my child to experience love, not to be scared of it, not to worry about her heart possibly being broken or that she loves them too much. Love is a part of life. It teaches you how to give your heart to someone, to open up to them. I don't want her to have a closed heart and run from love.

Quick Like A Cheetah...

My daughter wrote and drew this the other day and it made me laugh.

You Are Not Her Father

To Any Man Who Dates Me:

You are not her father. She has one; it's up to him how involved he wants to be in her life. You do not need to fill his shoes; he needs to walk in his own. You are dating me and, yes, I come with a child but, again, she has a father. I know you have seen those Facebook posts of how you need to be a father to the child of the woman you are dating, however, I don't feel that way.

My 5 Go To Meals

We all have them. Meals we can throw together quick and satisfy our hunger. Being a single parent to one child does have its advantages like less is needed to make dinner for two.

  1. Cheeseburgers. My daughter loves cheeseburgers. I try to find a leaner meat when possible and just add a little salt and pepper and I'm good to go. The best part is she always like mine better than McDonalds, not that I give her McDonalds all the time anyway. Kids!

What Would You Do If...

While watching The Magic Of Belle Isle  a scene stood out. One of the main characters, who was a young girl, was in a used bookstore where she came across a book written by her new neighbor, an author of western novels, played by Morgan Freeman. When she went to pay the store clerk informed her it was on sale because the last page was gone, someone had ripped it out. This had me pondering:

Finding A Little Joy

On April 1st, yes "April Fool's Day", my washer and dryer were damage when my basement flooded. Since then, I've had to go to the laundromat until I can afford to fix or replace mine. This isn't all bad because I bring a book to read or my tablet to play games on. Typically, there are very few people there when I normally go in the morning. My favorite part of doing laundry there.....

Children As Validation?

Growing up,  we can be led to believe we need to complete certain life expectations.

If we are single, we need to find partner.

Once found, we need to marry them.

Once married, we need to have children.

Society Please...

Deciding and voicing when you need help can be very hard for someone to do. Making the choice to apply for a form of government assistance can weigh very heavily on a person’s mind. When applying, it should not be an open invitation of members of society to belittle or scrutinize them.  Each person who receives help has a story of their own yet so many members of society group these people together as “lazy” or “freeloaders”.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day.....

To the single moms who are doing their best with or without the father's help,
To the foster moms who opened their heart and their home,
To the stepmoms who are raising his children as her own,
To the working moms who wonder each day if they are spending enough time with their children,
To the stay-at-home moms whose role in the family may go unnoticed,
To all the mothers I may have forgotten to mention, I wish you a Happy Mother's Day!

My daughter picked out a two pictures for me to hang on my wall.

Letter In A Bottle....

What would it be like to write a letter and sent it out into the water to await some stranger? What would you write?  How long do you think it would take to reach someone else? Plus, is it legal to send a letter in a bottle nowadays? Legality aside, I think it would be very cool to do. My letter would be simple:
If you are reading this, I hope you are having a wonderful day. I hope your worries are small and your life full of beauty and love. Smile at the sun shining or dance in the rain. Live in the moment.
Perhaps it is more of a letter to myself. To remind me of the good in life and to let some things just a letter in a bottle that is drifting out into the world.

What would your letter say?

What The Heck?!

It was April Fools Day. I awoke to start my day and get my daughter up and ready for school. I always turn down the heat while we are sleeping since we both love to be covered under blankets. Every morning I am up first and if it feels cool I turn up the heat a little before I wake her up. So, I did.

I did not hear the furnace kick on in the basement which was strange since I knew I had fuel. I decided around 7am to go down to the basement and check out why. This is what I was greeted with:

What Defines Cheating?

I have been thinking about this for awhile, "What defines cheating in a relationship?" Is it the sexual contact with another human being other than your significant other? Or is it broader than that? Cheating, to me, can be more than the act of sex. I feel when you start to give others the attention your significant other desires and needs, you are cheating. Emotionally cheating. That can hurt a relationship.

It's 4 In The Morning!

It's 4am.
I'm asleep under a bunch of warm blankets until I hear my daughter yell "Mommy!". It took a minute to realize she calling to me. I hurried into her room to see her sitting up and upset. She said she heard a "tap tap tap" noise and it scared her. She sleeps with a radio on so I'm surprised she heard it. So, I listened with her to determine the noise.

My Daughter's Drawing

I love when my daughter draws! When a child is given a pencil and a piece of paper their creations are priceless! My daughter is into wolves/werewolves a lot lately, not sure why, but that is what she chooses to draw the most. The other day she drew a picture that had me laughing and put a smile on my face. I hope you smile some too.

The Me I See

The saying is "a picture is worth a thousand words" and I believe that to be true at times. When I look at this picture of me I took (and edited) the other day I see opposite of what I am.
