Book Review: The Last Wild By Piers Torday

My 12 year old asked me to read this book. He read it last year and really enjoyed it. Any book that can encourage my child to read more is a winner in my book! This is part of a series and is aimed at 8-12 year olds or 3rd- 7th graders however, as an adult, I found it an interesting read as well. At this time I have not read the others in the series but plan to once my child is finished reading them.
It centers on the main character of Kester, who is 12 years old, and his inability to speak verbally over the past six years since his mother died. However, he is able to communicate with animals. Kester hasn't seen his father in years while living in a place called Spectrum Hall.

Book Review: Such A Pretty Girl By Laura Wiess

The main character Meredith was abused by her father and he was sent to prison. Originally he was to be in prison until Meredith was an adult, however he gets released early while Meredith is fifteen years old, a mere three years after abusing her. The book takes place over a relatively short period of time after her father's release. His release causes Meredith great stress about what could happen once he is home. He is not able to live with her mother and her, instead he lives close by--within walking distance in the same complex as them.
